Two siblings from Macclesfield are to run a marathon this weekend, raising money for the British Heart Foundation.

Sam Prince and Ben Prince have currently raised £840 for the national charity, and will run 52 miles at Macclesfield Athletics Track on the morning of Sunday September 4.

It is after their father Andrew Prince had a heart attack earlier this year, but luckily stayed alive.

Aquinas College student Sam Prince (17) came up with the idea to do the challenge.

"My family has had a history of heart problems", he said.

"My grandad passed away from a heart attack, and my dad recently had one the other month as well. Luckily, my dad was able to get the treatment to recover and hopefully will be better now.

"So this challenge is to thank the British Heart Foundation for helping my family and keeping my dad alive really.

"It is the first marathon and charity challenge I have ever done in my life."

As well as the brothers marathons, there will also be a relay marathon for other family members and friends to take part in.

40 people have donated to the crowdfunder so far, which aims to raise £1000.

10 per cent of the funds will go to a Satellites Swimming Club, also at Macclesfield Leisure Centre.

90 per cent of the funds will go to the British Heart Foundation.

"Please support us, any donations, however big or small, will be massively appreciated and will allow other people to receive the same great help as my Dad," added Sam.

"The heart attack has left everlasting damage both physically and mentally. The whole experience was both scary and stressful and as a token of appreciation, I want to fund raise for the British Heart Foundation."

"Thank you Macclesfield for your support.

"I'm really excited to finish it and see my dad's face, to make him proud really."

Older brother Ben had the following to say:

"We're grateful for all the support", he concluded.

"It surprised us how much we've managed to raise in a short space of time.

"It is going to make running the marathon that easier knowing that we already have that support behind us."
