Macclesfield cacti growers win Gold four years in a row at Tatton Flower Show
Cacti growers in Macclesfield are celebrating this morning, for winning the best award possible at the Tatton Flower Show.
It is another gold award for the display by the Macclesfield and East Cheshire Branch of the National Cactus and Succulent Society.
They have now won this accolade for four years in a row, with many of the same plants having been part of previous victories.
Branch Vice Chair and Secretary Bryan Doherty confirmed the good news to Macc Nub this morning.
"The Branch is thrilled to win four in a row," said Macclesfield resident Bryan.
"We're not commercial growers. We are enthusiasts who have collections that we put together from the exhibit.
"We have over 120 plants from eight members collections.
"We're quite ruthless in the weeks before the show using a spreadsheet to decide what plants are best for the showing.
"Some of the plants used were 30, 40 years old."
The topic for the exhibit explores how cacti have naturally evolved to protect themselves from predators and drought.
If you want to join the group of enthusiasts who have just secured their fourth consecutive Gold, please head to their website and Facebook.
