Macclesfield: Cold snap to be over by Tuesday
Storm Arwen will thankfully end with a whimper, not a bang.
This is as the last of the really cold weather will be today - and we should see even mountain snow visibly begin to melt from Tuesday.
While extreme wind was initially expected, snow became clear on Friday evening and led to power cuts across homes in Macclesfield that are yet to be resolved.
Gawsworth Road in Macclesfield has not received power all weekend, but is expected to return at 4pm on Monday.
With lows of -3 degrees Celsius, it would have been easy to cancel the majority of events happening at the weekend, but most went ahead.
While Macclesfield FC's tight Cheshire derby win against Northwich Victoria took place, rugby and hockey in Macclesfield was cancelled.
But multiple markets were held on both days, including the Treacle Market, which was still packed despite the temperature hovering above and below zero degrees.
Some trains were delayed or cancelled, from travelling at lower speeds. But key workers in transport should be praised for their valiant efforts in keeping our economy going, in spite of Arwen.
Many hill roads in Macclesfield remained closed, and those travelling into Macclesfield should stick to flat and clear roads.
The yellow weather warning for ice in Macclesfield had been lifted by 12pm on Monday afternoon, meaning it is safer to navigate and risks of injury are no longer life-threatening.
For the upcoming forecast, there will be light rain by early evening today, and it will warm up in the night to eight degrees celsius.
Light rain and warming weather will continue through to 9am on Tuesday morning, where the sun will poke through the last of the once-snowy clouds.
Heavy rain will start from 11am, which should start to speed up the melting of snow and making our roads and pavements safer.
Tomorrow will see a high of 10 degrees Celsius, but it will still feel a little colder than that as wind speeds remain in the double figures.
30mph winds will end by Wednesday, as things continue to calm down.
Rain will persist until Thursday, where wind speeds should return to single figures for the first time in a week.
But it will be a little colder on Thursday with temperatures of 3C, meaning there may be spots of ice remaining in higher areas of Macc.
They'll be rain again though on Friday and higher temperatures, ensuring the crunchy ice and snow will have gone from even the most dangerous of roads, which should all be re-open by this point.
They'll even be sun with no clouds at the weekend, a stark difference from the wintry weekend we've just had!
