Macclesfield College has pledged to become an 'Active College' to drive cultural change and embed physical activity with students and staff.

As everyone's mental and physical health has been affected by the ongoing pandemic, the college says it is keen to implement a plan to improve the physical and mental wellbeing for all learners and staff by taking part in the Active Cheshire initiative.

Rachel Kay, Principal and Chief Executive of Macclesfield College said: "The College is committed to developing and improving ways to enrich the health, wellbeing and quality of life of all staff and learners. We are taking reasonable steps to protect staff, students and others from coronavirus within the education setting.

"To help improve this unsettling time, we are focusing on improving overall health amongst staff and students through our Active Cheshire Pledge."

Nont Iamkampheng, Strategic Lead Active Kids of Active Cheshire, said: "We want to start shifting attitudes in the workplace and education sector. There's an unwritten expectation to be at your desk at all times.

"Activating the College environment, including office and break out areas, will be more encouraging to create an active culture, promoting positive wellbeing choices and behaviours."

The charity said it aims to encourage behavioural change, transforming attitudes, mindsets, and habits.
