Greene King confirms its two Macclesfield pubs are safe from closure

By James Kelly 8th Oct 2020

Pub chain Greene King has confirmed that its two Macclesfield pubs are safe from closure amid the announcement of closures nationally.

The chain owns the Rising Sun on Congleton Road and the Brocklehurst Arms on Manchester Road.

Yesterday's announcement will affect 79 sites nationally and lead to the loss of 800 jobs.

A spokesperson referred to the government's restrictions on the hospitality sector, such as the 10pm curfew, as the reason for the move.

They said: "We urgently need the government to step in and provide tailored support to help the sector get through to the spring and prevent further pub closures and job losses."
