Macclesfield couple receive card from the King on 60th wedding anniversary

A Macclesfield couple received a card from the King on their diamond wedding anniversary.
Roy and Karen Hilton recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.
The occasion was made extra special as they received a card signed by Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
It read: "We are so pleased to hear that you are celebrating your diamond wedding anniversary on 8th May, 2025.
"This brings you our warmest congratulations and heartfelt good wishes on this happy occasion."
Asked the key to a successful marriage, Karen and Roy said: "Rub along every day and laugh a lot!"
They added: "We were very excited to receive the card from Charles and Camilla.
"We made sure to open the envelope very carefully. We're going to have it framed!"

Roy, 81, was born and raised in Macclesfield, attending Ash Grove and then Macclesfield Central School.
Meanwhile Karen, 77, was born in Salford and spent her early childhood in Poynton.
They met in a fabric mill in Hazel Grove.
"Roy suggested our first date, we went for a walk but he didn't tell me how far," said Karen.
"We walked from Hazel Grove, near the railway station, up to the Goyt Valley.
"I had a nail sticking up in my shoe and was determined not to tell Roy!"
Roy and Karen were married at Macclesfield Registry Office in 1965, with their wedding photos taken at Sparrow Park.
They have three children together – Philip, Dianne and Steph.

Over the years, Roy has worked various jobs, including being a coalman, a dustman, a taxi driver and a bus driver.
Once the children were at school, Karen went to work at Weston Pharmacy.
Outside of work, Karen and Roy have been members St John's Church on Earlsway for over 40 years.
Karen enjoys crafting at the Community Wellbeing Hub on Gilchrist Avenue while Roy likes to tinker with model boats in his shed, regularly attending events at Etherow Model Boat Club.
They have also enjoyed many holidays together, including numerous camping trips and visits to Butlins, as well as time spent on the canals.
