A Bollington father with cancer is currently cycling 95 miles for charity.

Liam Bergin (51) is biking from Bollington to his hometown of Stafford and back, in an attempt to reach his goal of raising £5000 for Brain Tumour Research and treatment.

Next week marks Liam's two year anniversary for his diagnosis.

After collapsing whilst riding his bike in April 2020, the cyclist was rushed to hospital and soon received a diagnosis that revealed he had stage 4 glioblastoma.

In other words, Liam had been diagnosed with a brain tumour, that permitted him just 18 months to live.

Liam moved to the Happy Valley during lockdown. He has raised over £25,000 for charity since his diagnosis.

Though after two years, Liam has found keeping active and optimistic has benefited his life and extended his quality time with his family.

"I have tried to embed myself in the community raising funds and awareness where I can," said Liam.

The online ambassador who describes himself as 'thriving' with his condition, uses his platform to share his story and reach out to the community of others suffering from the same illness.

Liam began his campaigning last year, raising over £20,000 through various fundraising activities including cycling coast to coast with his eldest child Joe (19), navigating Scafell Pike.

Last month, he launched a Macclesfield cancer support group in South Park, for other cancer patients and their loved ones to support them in their journeys.

With the backing of his wife and three children, Liam latest challenge seems him riding a total of 95 miles alongside his son Joe.

His goal stands to raise enough money to fund one day of research for brain cancer; a target he has already surpassed after having raised a staggering £4,600 so far.

Having recently retired from his career as the Head Caterer for the University of Manchester, Liam hopes to continue his fundraising, focusing on spending time with his family and to further raise awareness for the community of those suffering from similar conditions.

Liam will return to Bollington this evening.
