Macclesfield: Dog rescued from badger baiter seeks new home
A dog formerly owned by a criminal is seeking a loving family to take him in.
Drummer is a stunning foxhound who RSPCA Macclesfield are currently trying to find a new home for.
His ex-owner, who was a badger baiter, came from what RSPCA Macclesfield describe as 'an awful farm'.
"He spent over 450 days in kennels, prior to coming into our care for rehoming, because their owner refused to co-operate despite being banned from keeping animals," said RSPCA Macclesfield.
"Perhaps the most remarkable thing about Drummer is how unremarkable he is. Given all that he has been through, his normality is almost miraculously abnormal. He greets people with both eagerness and politeness; he is fussy and affectionate, he is playful and silly; he loves other dogs and seems gently curious towards other animals too. He is a pleasure, an entirely conventional one.
"But it could – nay, it should – have been very different. For he was born into another world, one where blood is the only currency that counts, one where fear clings and pain revels: he was born into the hunting pack."
Drummer seeks a quiet home, ideally with another large canine, and older children.
Badger baiting was made illegal in 1835 under the Cruelty to Animals Act.
