A Macclesfield farm are inviting the community to pick healthy fruit on their farm for the second-year running.

Norseman Farm in Lower Withington invites punters to pick a punt of honeyberries.

Honeyberries are the fruit form of honeysuckle plants, which are high in vitamin C and anti-oxidants.

There are over 20,000 plants, each sprouting their own berries across 15 varieties.

The containers are plastic-free, unlike fruit you can buy in the supermarket, and the farm claims it is also cheaper for the consumer. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

Ex-finance worker John Salt cultivates the crops on their farm.

"We chose to grow honey berries for their nutritional content," said John.

"Our honeyberry plants are organic, drought-tolerant, and can survive in cold weather.

"With fruit now costing up to £20 per kg in the supermarkets, why not pick your own in the beautiful Cheshire countryside for the bargain price of £4 per kg (size of large punnet)?

"It's a great half day out for all the family.

"Honeyberries are really good in muffins, flapjacks and ice cream.

"They go great with gin as well."

The berry picking season is May to July, so be quick!

It is the only time of year the farm is open to the public. So why not get out in nature, and enjoy the great outdoors?

There's no booking fee. Just pay for the berries that you pick. Parking free. Cold drinks sold on-site.

The farm is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 6pm (last entry at 5pm), with a late opening on Thursday and Friday to 7pm (last entry at 6pm).

Book here. More info HERE and HERE.
