Macclesfield FC has confirmed that management duo John Rooney and Francis Jeffers have signed new contracts to remain at the club.

The announcement was made today (6 May), with the pair having completed their first season in charge of the Silkmen and deciding to continue in post for the foreseeable future.

Rooney, appointed by chairman Rob Smethurst last summer, has overseen a strong first year in management, quickly earning the backing of the board, players and supporters.

Jeffers joined shortly after Rooney took over ahead of the 2025/26 season, having previously worked with him in a coaching capacity.

Together, they have led a significant turnaround in form and results. The season included a major upset in the FA Cup when Macclesfield defeated holders Crystal Palace at the Leasing.com Stadium in January.

The club also navigated a difficult period of mourning following the death of Ethan McLeod shortly before Christmas, alongside a congested fixture schedule caused by competing in multiple competitions.

Despite this, Macclesfield climbed from 15th to 4th in the Enterprise National League North within four months.

In the play-offs, they beat Chester FC in the semi-finals before losing to Kidderminster Harriers in the final stage.

A spokesperson for Macclesfield FC said: "Regardless of the eventual outcome of the season, everyone at Macclesfield FC is incredibly proud of what our management team have achieved in such a short space of time.

"They couldn't be a better fit to take the Club forward as such willing servants and are equally as deserving of their new deals, which will see them lead the Silkmen in to the upcoming 2026/27 season.

"We'd like to congratulate John and Franny on their success to date and wish them the very best of luck for what is no doubt going to be a very exciting future with Macclesfield FC."
