Macclesfield FC have announced a new global partner which is their biggest yet - and it will benefit all Macclesfield children.

The club which are set to kick-off their first ever season in just over three months, have teamed up with AstraZeneca, the pharmaceutical industry-leaders who employ hundreds in our town.

The global science-led business has agreed to support the Trust's ongoing work in primary schools across the area.

The Silkmen and AstraZeneca will now form a strategic collaboration with a new "Health and Science Education" element to be included as part of our existing School Sport Programme.

Currently the Community Sports Trust delivers physical education lessons and extra-curricular clubs to primary schools across Cheshire - engaging with over 1,000 children.

This new collaboration with AstraZeneca marks an opportunity to expand the reach of the School Sport Programme, as well as working alongside a world leader in the pharmaceutical and biological industry with the objective to combine science education with the fun and interaction of sport sessions.

The Health and Science Education programme is to be piloted during the Summer Term 2021, with further expansion in the next academic year.

Commenting on this exciting development Macclesfield FC Community Sports Trust Manager Paul McGuire, said:

"As a Club we are delighted to be working with a company of AstraZeneca's calibre and reputation, who have always played a significant role in Macclesfield.

"It is fantastic for us that they have recognised the quality of our work within the community and wish to help the Trust expand our outreach within primary schools.

"It is a great opportunity to widen the breadth of our School Sport Programme, which will benefit local youngsters and we are very grateful to AstraZeneca for their support."

This was added to by Macclesfield FC Director of Football, Robbie Savage:

"Science and sport are integral parts of any youngster's education and it is amazing that the Club can come together with the Community Sports Trust and AstraZeneca in order to promote both in our primary schools.

"I would like to thank AstraZeneca for their involvement within this project, which has my unequivocal backing."

Chris Maddock, AstraZeneca Macclesfield Site Lead said:

"We have been really impressed by the terrific work the Trust do in schools all across the region.

"AstraZeneca are delighted to be part of a collaboration with the Trust, supporting the extension of programmes to raise awareness of the science behind health and what science can do."

The new Silkmen enter the North West Counties Football League in the 2021–22 season.
