Macclesfield football club fill cars and raise over £500 in foodbank appeal
Parents and kids of a youth football club are being praised, after a generous effort to support a Macclesfield food bank.
On Tuesday evening for their regular training session, Tytherington Juniors FC players and adults donated food and funds to support Silklife Foodbank.
The George Street foodbank have since received the goods, which will make a difference to families living on the breadline in Macclesfield this Christmas.
Tytherington Juniors, who have a pitch on the Rugby Drive playing fields said: "Silklife Foodbank were very grateful."
"It will make a massive difference to our community this festive period, and we filled three full cars. We also raised £532.10. The generosity was beyond our wildest expectation."
Club Secretary and Under 8s Manager Matt O'Brien said: "In a world full of politicians looking out for themselves, be like Tytherington Juniors FC in Macclesfield."
Dan Blackman, Manager of the Silklife Foodbank was grateful for their support: "It really does make me smile when I hear of parents encouraging their children to give."
"Giving is a huge part of character building and this initiative is a fantastic opportunity for young sports stars to exercise their giving muscles.
"It is understandable, that the Silkife Foodbank has had to scale up significantly this past year to meet the ever-increasing number of referrals for emergency food parcels in our locality.
"The team currently responds to an average of 175 referrals per month and distributes approximately 900kg of food and toiletries each week.
"Your collection of food and finances will help the team at Silklife to continue supporting those facing a hunger crisis over the Christmas period and into 2022. Thank you."
One parent on social media said: "Amazing work. A proper community club".
