Macclesfield Nub News loves to support local charities, so today we've chosen to profile a vacancy at youth charity Cre8.

A Music Support Worker is required for the Macclesfield organisation, who's services include running musical activities for 8-16 year olds.

It will include working with young bands or individuals to improve their musical skills.

Regular tidying and cleaning of equipment to prevent the spread of COVID-19 will also be part of the job, which pays £9.50 per hour.

Macclesfield Nub News spoke to Ollie Gibson, Music Project Co-ordinator for Cre8, who the lucky candidate will be working with.

"The Music Support Worker role is helping local young people to access music provision," he said.

"Whether that be working in groups to write a song, doing listening activities, or learning parts on different instruments so they can come together and perform together.

"We are focused on the process of making music together and the wellbeing impact that can have on young people's lives. Music can allow them to express themselves and build self-esteem.

"The Music Support Worker will take groups of young people or maybe working one-to-one on an ad hoc basis, and being able to proactively respond what young people what to do musically."

The role requires a minimum 2.75 hours a week, but more likely 5.5 hours a week of work will be conducted.

Cre8's music sessions for Macc kids run after school every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Each day starts at 3:15pm and ends at 6pm.

The charity located on 11 Belgrave Road, runs the sessions at the Mayfield Centre on the Moss Estate.

"My favourite thing about working for Cre8 is I get to do lots of different things and work with young people that are inspiring," Ollie added.

"The energy that young people bring, and watching the ideas that they have, and watching people progress musically is very rewarding.

"It is challenging but fun work."

Families who earn less than £28,000 are half as likely to have a child playing a musical instrument than those who earn £48,000, so it is vital that Cre8 continues to offer community music.

You can help by applying to help with their music sessions, and encourage creativity.

Candidates must have applied no later than the closing date of August 27, on this website, where a full job description is available.

You can also view a recent concert of theirs here, packed full of original music and covers, performed by Macclesfield children.
