A secondary school pupil from Macclesfield is to brave the shave for charity.

11-year-old Max Tompkins-Lines has been growing out his hair to donate as a wig.

This is after a family member passed away from cancer, who wanted a wig.

As well as donating his locks, Max hopes to raise £700 for The Little Princess Trust.

He chose this number, as that is the cost for the charity to make a wig out of human hair.

"I wanted to do something special for our cousin Nolianni", said Max.

"This is in memory of her."

"Nolianni passed away after her battle with cancer at 14," said Aimee.

"She was truly a ray of sunshine! Never stopped smiling."

The charity has been providing wigs to young cancer patients since 2005.

Max admits the hair can get in the way of football. But there's just a few days left until he squares off with the scissors.

Max is having the cut on Friday April 12, and will lose 12 inches of hair.

He'll have his locks lashed at a new hairdressers on Sunderland Street.

"We're starting to tie my hair back, so my dog will be able to recognise me," said Max.

"Our dog has only knows me with long hair!"

Max's hair will have an impact on a young life, as The Little Princess Trust is a charity that provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young adults who have lost their own hair through cancer.

He's also fundraising for the Hereford-based national charity, with £110 raised as of publication.

Max settled on a £700 target because it will cover the full cost of creating a wig that a young person with cancer can wear.

"Thank you very much for the donations and support," concluded Max.

"I was shocked when the first few donations came in."

"Max is an incredible young man known for his kindness, compassion humor and positivity," said mother Aimee.

"To all who know him, he's a real blessing and is just one of the those kids who no one has a bad word to say on him, from his family and friends to his peers and teachers.

"Max, also is autistic and has ADHD, and is a young carer for myself, which makes this process a little more nerve-wracking!"

Wendy Tarplee-Morris, Founder of The Little Princess Trust, said: "We are incredibly grateful to Max for his wonderfully kind gesture."

"His hair and his fundraising will be a huge help to us as we continue to provide wigs to children affected by hair loss.

"We know from speaking to our wig recipients just what a difference these real hair wigs can make to a young person's confidence and identity at what can be a very challenging time.

"But we can only provide this free service thanks to 'superhairoes' like Max."
