Macclesfield man reaches halfway mark of 500 days of 10ks world record challenge

A Macclesfield man is halfway through a record-breaking challenge.
Tom Stott is taking on an extraordinary mission to smash the Guinness World Record for the most consecutive 10k runs.
The current record stands at 365 days but Tom is aiming a little higher, with his sights set on running 10km every single day for 500 days.
He is doing it to raise funds and awareness for MIND, the mental health charity that supported him and his family through his own struggles with gambling addiction, which started at just 16 years old
"Running has been a lifeline for me," said Tom.
"It's helped me manage my mental health, giving me structure, purpose, and a release of endorphins. It's been a key element in helping maintain my abstinence and recovery.
"I enjoy being competitive with myself - trying to beat previous PBs - but more than anything, running gives me time to think. It's therapy on the move."

Tom's relationship with running goes back to his school days at the Fallibroome Academy, where he represented Cheshire in the 400m.
As a footballer, running remained part of his fitness routine but it was during the 2020 lockdown that running became his main focus.
With team sports paused, Tom began solo road running, completing 92 consecutive days of 5Ks.
"I don't need anyone or anything else to go on a run," he said.
"If it snows, rains, or is sunny - I just put on my trainers and go."
Tom will hit day 272 of his challenge at the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run on Sunday (May 18).
While he will be running the Half Marathon, he only needs to complete the first 10k in under 90 minutes for it to count towards his Guinness World Record attempt.
Sharing advice for fellow participants gearing up for race day, Tom said: "Pace yourself, enjoy the experience, and soak up the atmosphere."
