Macclesfield Mayor raises almost £3000 for chosen charities by facing fears at 100mph
The Macclesfield Mayor has conquered his fear of heights for charity.
Mayor Sandy Livingstone scaled down a Welsh mountain on a zipline at speeds of up to 100mph, in aid of his two chosen Mayoral charities.
Sandy took on the challenge last Saturday, in aid of Space4Autism Macclesfield and MaccArtSpace.
He has fundraised a mighty £2,935 to be split equally between the two good causes. And you can still donate.
"I am feeling much more relaxed now than I was last Saturday morning," admitted Sandy.
"I have only just managed to stop shaking."
44 people have donated to his charity fear-facing crowdfunder.
"It is probably one of the worst things I have ever been through. You are about 1000 feet up," he revealed.
"Once you get going, you accelerate rapidly, you drop and merge into the water the quarry below. And it was at that point, my breakfast almost came back!
"When I got off, I started shaking. But soon came the satisfaction, it was something I could not think I could do.
"I managed to get down without swearing, or screaming in a very loud voice! I was very proud of myself!"
"It was an overwhelming feeling of being humble over how much was raised."
Sandy has been Macclesfield's Mayor since May 2024. He is also a town councillor for Central Ward.
"The people in the town are very generous," said Sandy.,
"I would like to say a huge thank you for donating to some very important local causes, supporting vulnerable children and adults, and encouraging people to be involved of all ages to reap the benefits that being creative gives you in life.
"I am very proud to support these two causes."
Laura Smith is the town clerk, and helps with duties of the Mayor of Macclesfield.
"The Town Council are super proud of the Mayor, Sandy, we know how scared he was and he has truly conquered his fear whilst raising an amazing amount for charity," she said on behalf of Macclesfield Town Council.
"We are looking forward to more exciting events from this year's Mayor including a Ceilidh for Burns night."
The two charities were contacted for comment by Macclesfield Nub News.
MaccArtSpace, who provide free arts events in the community, are grateful for the flying Mayor.
Patty Callaghan, of MaccArtSpace said upon finding out how much money Sandy has raised: ""That is really impressive, wow."
"It is fantastic, with what we do, you always need more money to engage with more people.
"So it is wonderful that he has chose us as one of his charities. What an achievement.
"Upcoming free events from Macc Artspace include Spooky Saturday, on October 26, in the town centre."
Space4Autism founder Cheryl Simpson said: "It is just wonderful what Sandy is doing for Space4Autism and Macclesfield Community Artspace, I know he was terrified so to push his boundaries in aid of our two wonderful charities is truly amazing."
It is not too late to donate to Sandy's fundraiser. You can do so via this link.
Sandy's next charity fundraising event is on October 25 in the Pack Horse Bowling Club at 7:30pm, there will be a bingo night to raise money for the two charities.
And a Burns Night event from 7pm, January 26 2025, will take place also raising money for his two charities.
There may be a few more events to come, so keep your eyes peeled on the Mayor of Macclesfield Facebook.
