Medical students undertaking their placements with East Cheshire NHS Trust have been recognised with an award for their dedication and professionalism.

Following their first placement year at Macclesfield District General Hospital, students were presented with the Team of the Month award for achieving excellent results in their examinations with all students progressing from junior to senior year.

Following a new partnership between the Trust and University of Buckinghamshire's Medical School, students arrived in March 2023 as the first cohort to undertake their placements at the hospital, where they will stay for the entirety of their clinical years whilst undertaking their medical degree.

Junior Doctor and Education Fellow at East Cheshire NHS Trust, Dr Samuel Walker, said: "The students have shown excellent dedication and professionalism throughout their first year at the hospital, and have contributed to ward teams helping with clinical tasks.

"They have contributed to the community at the hospital and helped to develop a culture of learning and continued professional development and have shown excellent commitment to their studies and have had excellent results in their examinations.

"I am incredibly proud of what they have achieved and feel that they deserve recognition of their achievement as trailblazers of a new project and flourishing young professionals."

Medical student, Amy Otunuga, said: "From initially starting my clinical placements at Macclesfield Hospital, everyone has been so welcoming and made me feel part of the Trust.

"It is a lovely and supportive atmosphere to complete my clinical training and it has allowed me to grow confidence in my clinical and practical skills.

"A big thank you to our excellent Education Fellows also, they honestly have made me so much more confident in becoming a doctor."

The students were presented with their award by the Trust's Medical Director, Dr John Hunter.
