An Ofsted report for a Macclesfield secondary school has just been released.

Tytherington School were inspected by Ofsted between April 26 and 27 2022.

The two-day inspection specifically focused on the quality of education, curriculum design and planning, as well as the quality of behaviour, attitudes and safeguarding provision.

Tytherington School received high praise throughout the report for the high quality of education provided for youngsters.

Emmanuel Botwe has led the school since October 2015.

Headteacher Mr Botwe said: "The report opens with a line which in many ways captures the very essence of our school community."

The report stated: "Pupils and students told inspectors that Tytherington School is a safe and happy place, where everyone feels included and can make friends".

The academy headteacher of seven years went on to say: "Families will know that we've never done things for the purposes of Ofsted ratings or league tables, so I'm particularly pleased that the report recognises the high-quality education we provide at the school".

The inspectors said that "…Students have a strong voice in school life. They support and contribute to the leaders' vision of a community school where everybody is welcome."

"Alongside the many clubs and activities that leaders provide, there is also a students' women's society, a thriving pupil and student parliament and an LGBTQ+ group.

"Pupils have few concerns about harmful behaviour or bullying. They report any worries to adults. Staff listen to pupils' concerns and take them seriously. They resolve any bullying issues quickly."

The school rated 'Good' in the overall report, was also praised for adapting during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their sixth form was also praised for introducing academic reading, to prepare kids for university.

Teachers were also commended for being experts in their subjects in sixth form, also benefitting the 219 students which attend there.

The inspectors also recognised the fantastic behaviour and attitudes of the young people.

The report reads: "Leaders have high expectations of pupils' behaviour. Pupils behave well in lessons and around the school building. They arrive to lessons on time. Pupils are considerate and respectful of others."

Mr Botwe added: "I am also pleased that the inspectors recognised our unrelenting focus on delivering an ambitious curriculum for all students".

The breadth of after-school or lunchtime activities were also praised. (Image - Tytherington School)

The report states: "Leaders and trustees make clear their high hopes for pupils' achievement and future lives. They provide pupils with a broad and ambitious curriculum. This curriculum is especially strong in the sixth form. Pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and disadvantaged pupils, all access the same opportunities and experience success in school."

A small amount of unnamed subjects had room for improvement, with the report claiming "some pupils do not learn essential knowledge with sufficient depth and precision", which kept the place of education back from an 'Outstanding' rating.

But this did not prevent the Macclesfield school from maintaining a 'Good' rating once again.

The Manchester Road 11-18 school, which has 1314 pupils.

The range of extra-curricular provision and a careers programme which prepares students to "flourish in Modern Britain" were also highlighted.

The Lead Inspector said that the feedback from parents, especially the free text comments, was among the best he had encountered.
