A Macclesfield petrol station is to now be owned by a supermarket, which previously lacked a presence in the town.

Asda Group have announced the acquisition of EG Group's UK and Ireland operations for an enterprise value of circa £2.27 billion.

EG Group are behind the Esso petrol station in Churchill Way, the most central petrol station in Macclesfield.

It is not known when Asda's branding will be put on the site, and whether this means Macclesfield's high petrol prices (compared to neighbouring towns) will change from this new competitor.
