A petrol station in Macclesfield has shut for four months.

In May 2022, planning permission was approved to redevelop the Shell Petrol Station in Tytherington.

Now as of today, the site has shut until August, for construction work to begin.

As well as a new refilling forecourt and the addition of electric car chargers, the pit stop will also welcome a new mini Waitrose.

The high-end supermarket is set to come to Macclesfield as part of a nationwide drive to team up with at least 70 Shell petrol stations.

The car wash will not return. It is possible the four electric car chargers could take about half an hour to fully charge.

The site is located on 53 Manchester Road. It is one of two Shell's in Macclesfield, along with the one at Broken Cross.
