You could get paid £75 for sitting on a panel which recommended whether the current allowance given to Cheshire East Councillors is appropriate.

Cheshire East Council is looking to recruit four people to sit on a panel that advises the authority on appropriate payments for the work carried out by its elected members.

The Independent Remuneration Panel advises the authority on the way in which elected members are reimbursed for their public service.

The panel meets as and when required, over a four year term.

Councillor Sam Corcoran, chair of corporate policy committee said: "Applications are particularly sought from people with specific experience of the workings of local government, or people involved in the private or voluntary sector within the borough.

"We will also seek to appoint one of the successful applicants as the panel chair, for which previous experience of chairing an independent remuneration panel will be a highly desirable criterion.

"The way our members are reimbursed for public service is of interest to many. We want this process to be transparent and, therefore, any advisory role must be independent of the council. I look forward to the formation of this important panel in the coming months."

According to the Cheshire East Council website, members' allowances for Cheshire East Councillors "represent a reimbursement for the time and personal costs incurred by elected members while carrying out their responsibilities on behalf of the council and the people of Cheshire East"

Candidates interested in joining the panel should be completely independent, should not be politically active or have a relationship with a councillor or a member of the authority's staff.

The figure is not a salary. The 2021/22 basic allowance rate was £12,351. The future allowance amount is currently up for debate.
