A Macclesfield pub is closing with immediate effect until next Saturday.

It is as the two staff members have tested positive for COVID-19.

The pub, located on 107 Brook Street, is known for live music along with a large selection of quality local and European beers.

"Unfortunately, myself [the landlord] and a member of staff have both tested positive for COVID-19," The Wharf said in a social media post.

"Therefore The Wharf will remain closed until Saturday 24th July."

On the seven days to July 8, Macclesfield East & Hurdsfield - where the pub is located - recorded 42 cases of coronavirus.

This is the joint highest for cases within our area, tied with central Macclesfield who also had 42 cases recorded on the week until July 8.

The pub will celebrate their 10 year re-opening anniversary in two months, after it was saved in September 2011 under the helm of Chris Stairmand.

The Wharf serves local ales, real fire, free library, televised sport with SKY and ESPN, a growing selection of single malts.
