Macclesfield pub named county’s best and one of the ‘cosiest’ in England
A Macclesfield pub has been named the best in Cheshire.
The Telegraph has published a list of the best pubs in each of England's 48 ceremonial counties.
Here in Cheshire, that honour goes to The Castle on Church Street in Macclesfield.
Rebecca Prunty, company director, said: "We are chuffed to pieces!
"It's been hard work and continues to be, with our bills ever increasing and customers being much more mindful of their spends, however we won't stop doing all we can to provide a cosy and welcoming place to all who visit us!
"I couldn't be prouder of my team or more grateful for the support we continue to receive from our customers, not to mention how grateful I am to all the amazing breweries/producers/makers/growers that we work with.
"I feel lucky every day to have had such an opportunity in such a beautiful building, in the best town around."
In his article for The Telegraph, travel writer Will Hawkes explained that The Castle was in a state of 'semi-dereliction' before being taken over by business partner Paul Harrison and Tim Broster.
A huge amount of effort was then put in to restoring the 18th century Grade II-listed building to its former glory.
Will added: "Reopened in 2021, this is one of the cosiest pubs in England: the taproom at the front, for example, has space for about eight customers."
