While some dealt with lockdown struggles by trying a new hobby, ITM radio presenter Steve Evans decided to try to get his name in the Guinness World Record books.

On 17 September, Steve will embark on an 8-day journey to break the world record for the longest solo DJ radio broadcast, with all proceeds from the event going to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The current record sits at 207 hours, 1 minute and 17 seconds, set by Mario Blanco of Vitoria, Spain and in October last year Steve got the go-ahead from Guinness World Records to attempt to break it.

Steve started his career in music at just 17 years old, working for free to get his foot in the door of the industry.

Now the father of two produces his own music, hosts the Late-Night Friday show on ITM Radio and is an avid supporter of Macmillan Cancer Support, raising money for the charity every year.

After experiencing a very close call with bowel cancer in 2014, Steve was awestruck by the amazing support and care he received from Macmillan; "They're absolutely amazing and I'll do anything that I can for them while I'm still here."

When he wasn't able to reach his fundraising goal for 2020 due to lockdown, he decided to do something "bigger and better to make up for it".

Steve promptly applied to Guinness World Records, inspired to do something in memory of the close friends and family he's lost to cancer.

Businesses and individuals can sponsor an hour of the attempt for £50 and receive a full hour of advertising or enter any special requests you may have. Dedicate the hour to your parents or get Steve to spend it in an Easter bunny costume.

"I won't wear a mankini but anything else goes," Steve added.

The Guinness regulations require the attempt be done in a public area where anyone can view during the 8 days, and only allows a two hour break every 24 hours, a challenging feat of mental and physical endurance.

You can catch Steve's attempt on 17 September 2021 at the Hollin House Hotel & Restaurant or over ITM Radio.
