The amount of journeys taken by members of the public at Macclesfield Railway Station is back on the rise.

After a few years of languishing in the hundreds of thousands, there's been over a million entries or exits at Macclesfield station over a 12 month period for the first time since before the pandemic.

These estimates of station usage come from the Office of Rail and Road, who published the new stats this morning.

These latest stats which chart people coming into and leaving a train station, ranges from April 2022 to March 2023.

This is the first dataset to not contain a 12 month window under any COVID-19 restrictions, and gives us a clear picture of rail usage in our post-pandemic world.

In total, 1,183,784 entries or exits took place at Macclesfield Railway Station April 2022 to March 2023.

This compares to 996,240 entries or exits took place at Macclesfield Railway Station from April 2021 to April 2022.

This is an increase of 187,544 entries or exits.

The last time Macclesfield had over a million passengers was in 2018/19 with 1.7 million, so figures are still quite a way from pre-COVID levels, but have increased for the second year in a row.

This makes Macclesfield the 376th busiest train station in the country.

Other local stations also saw increases in usage.

Chelford's entries and exits were up by 3148, Prestbury's by 8380, and Adlington's by almost 3000.
