A Macclesfield woman has been putting her singing talents to good use during the lockdown by putting on a garden gig to entertain her neighbours.

Lucy Cooper, who lives on Hawthorn Way in Macclesfield swapped the stage for her doorstep while neighbours enjoyed from the comfort of their own gardens.

Lucy told Nub News: "Singing isn't what I do for a living, but I do gigs here and there. I do some charity events locally; local pubs and parties, just things like that."

"Because I'm a member of a few different groups on Facebook for performers and singers, I've seen that some people on there have gone live from their living rooms to just try and entertain. I just thought, 'I'm going to open my front door and get my speakers out and do it outside."

She added: "It was just a bit of fun, if I'm honest."

The pharmacy worker streamed her performance live on Facebook so those who weren't within earshot could join in the fun.

Lucy's mother, Carol Costello, is self-isolating and listened to her daughter perform through the live stream.

She said: "Lucy's always looking to cheer people up, bless her. She just thought it would be a good idea because everybody's stuck inside. The neighbours loved it."

Lucy's garden gig was going well until near the end when the police showed up following an apparent complaint.

Lucy explained: "I think somebody in the vicinity thought we were having a gathering or party, which is fair enough as it maybe sounded like that, so obviously that's why they came. When they got here, they could see that wasn't the case; we were all just in our own gardens and the officers were great about it."

The officers did not ask Lucy to end the performance, but she decided to end it in case a neighbour was annoyed. "There was no drama," she added.

Coincidentally, when the police arrived, Lucy was performing the Plan B song, 'She Said' with lyrics that said: "They want to lock me up and throw away the key."

"I just ended up singing it to them, thinking that this is really weird. That was quite funny." Lucy recalled.

The performance was not only popular among the neighbours, but it has also garnered online attention with the live stream gaining over 11,000 views on Facebook.

Lucy said she hopes to hold another garden gig given how popular it was with her neighbours and online viewers.
