Macclesfield: Spate of abandoned trolleys around town over festive period

Supermarket trolleys are being littered across Macclesfield.

Seven abandoned Tesco trolleys have been reported across town in the last five days.

One was even found in the centre of Market Place, outside the Visitor Information Centre on Monday.

Two were close to the Hurdsfield Road Tesco, on the pavement of Hibel Corner, just inches away from the busy road.

One of them was even flipped over a gate and adjacent fire exit.

One was also reported on Coare Street on Boxing Day, however, this may be one the ones currently on Hibel Road.

A further four have been identified and retrieved by sustainable electric cargo company ELOV.

On Twitter they expressed their fury at the assailants of the trolley displacement.

"Not acceptable," they said online on December 22.

"Four abandoned trolleys collected from residential streets in Macclesfield. Have some respect!

"If you have too much shopping to carry, book us to collect and walk home without the Burdon of pushing an annoying trolley."

The Tesco on Exchange Street also has trolleys, where they also may have come from.

It is not known who is to blame for the rise in trolley dumping. It may be mischievous youths, but with people carrying turkeys and bulky Christmas shopping, it could feasibly be adults which are also to blame.
