A Macclesfield woman will battle the heat of a long distance walk in costume, to raise money for a good cause.

Kaite Crowther, from Tytherington, will take on a 10k walk (6.2 mile) trek, dressed as a breast, this weekend.

It is all to raise money and awareness for charity. Macclesfield Nub News met with Kaite to find out more.

"I will be doing a 10k walk on September 7 in Manchester dressed as a giant inflatable boob", said Kaite.

"I will be taking on this challenge along with 49 other women to raise funds and awareness for mammograms.

"Prevent Breast Cancer, at Wythenshawe Hospital are fundraising £3.8 million to pay a new imaging centre, with £900,000 in total to left raise.

"Between the 50 of us, we have raised £17,000 already before doing the walk. And we will be walking with charity buckets in the city centre after the walk.

"On a normal day it should take-two-and-a-half hours, but it will take a little longer in costume."

Kaite who is a marketing lead for a charity, will start her trek at the Emmeliene Pankhurst statue, on a whistle stop tour around Manchester, before returning to the same suffragette statue.

"My friend Charlotte works for the charity, she asked me to join," Kaite explained.

"I only decided to do this four weeks ago. I have not even been training for it!

"It is my first proper charity walk. It was definitely the blow-up boob that got it over the line, I liked the appeal of doing something silly."

Kaite, who has lived in Macclesfield since 2010, has already fundraised £150 before even taking a step.

She is looking forward to a celebratory beer once she is done.

"But I will have to walk back to the train station to get home," she added.

"So it will definitely be more than 10 kilometres in total!

"I would like to say a massive thank you to those who donate. Cancer makes a massive impact on people's lives, we all know someone who is affected by it.

"It will make a really big difference. Thank you."

The Mammary Walk as a whole, was only intended to raise £10,000, but already raised £17,000 across the 25 pairs of boob fundraisers. (Image - Prevent Breast Cancer)

Nikki Barraclough is chief executive of Prevent Breast Cancer, a national charity headquartered within the Nightingale Centre.

"We are so grateful for the support of the wonderful specialists and support staff who work out of the Nightingale Centre and who provide women living here with such amazing diagnostic care," she said.

"This walk will be a sight to behold, and I can't wait to see the team as they make their way through Manchester!"

The charity is currently fundraising for the construction of a new National Breast Imaging Academy which will be located next to The Nightingale Centre. The Academy will train 50 new breast imaging specialists a year and allow as many as 13,000 more women to be seen every year.

Kaite will be joined on the walk by radiologists, radiographers, mammographers, breast care nurses, research nurses, secretaries, support workers and fellow supporters of Prevent Breast Cancer will take on their fundraising spectacle on Saturday 7 September.

Kaite is not the only person from our area fundraising for Prevent Breast Cancer, please click HERE to find out a family from Bollington who are doing their bit for the charity.
