A Macclesfield brewer has just celebrated a quarter-century in business.

The Storm Brewing Company, nestled in Waterside, Macclesfield, recently marked a significant milestone as it celebrated its 25th Anniversary.

Back in 1998, the dynamic partnership of Hugh Thompson and David Stebbings came to life, birthing their inaugural creation, Ale Force, in their original brewing premises on Hurdsfield.

New award-winning ales followed on a regular basis: Bosley Cloud, Desert Storm, Windgather and Silk of Amnesia, amongst others.

In 2001 the business was growing at such a pace that new, larger premises had to be found. A move to Waterside followed a serendipitous find - a long unused building, which had been one of four pubs in that area, was purchased.

The brewery's craftsmanship extends beyond its core offerings, as bespoke beers are meticulously crafted for clients commemorating special occasions.

Notable examples include 'AB150,' which gained fame in Cheshire and Derbyshire as it honored Macclesfield's renowned furniture emporium, Arighi Bianchi, on its 150th Anniversary in 2005.

In a nod to the 2006 World Cup in Germany, a special light German-style beer named Bëkkëmbrau emerged, later transformed into the beloved Pale Gale Ale (PGA).

Hugh and Sales Manager, Patrick Sadelaar, retired in 2018 and were succeeded by Dave's son and daughter, Tom and Alice.

Dave retired in 2022 and they were joined by Joe Barker who completes the current team of three. Storm  continues to make consistently fine ales still collecting awards along the way, most recently with Isobar.

To commemorate this remarkable journey, the brewery commissioned a special anniversary artwork from The Courthouse Collective based in Park Green, Macclesfield. Copies of this masterpiece, available in various sizes, can be acquired from select outlets.
