PHP Insurance, of The Motorworks, will see staff take on the AJ Bell Great Manchester 10K (6.21 mile) run this Sunday.

PHP Insurance are an independent Chartered Insurance Broker with a first-class reputation, with clients based across the UK. They pride themselves with having the best quality staff who, clearly work just as hard outside of working hours.

Initially, it was just Account Executive Leah Joynes, Grace Barlow and director Dr Jullian Shawcross who signed up for the run.

But the charity bug was contagious, and 80% of those employed there are now taking part in this Sunday's run, each running for different charities.

Leah Joynes is one of those running. Leah, who has been working for the Macclesfield insurance firm for two years, spoke with Macclesfield Nub News.

"We all had a think about what charities we wanted to support, and have all selected charities that are personal to us," said Leah.

"I am running for The Anthony Nolan Trust, raising money for stem cell research."

Leah's charity crowdfunder has so far received £305 donations, from 16 people. You can donate to Leah's Anthony Nolan fundraiser via THIS LINK.

"Stem cell treatment helps with things such as blood cancers," she explained.

"And I chose them as it is not just about raising the money. It is also about raising awareness as well. You can sign up to their stem cell register [to be a best match for someone who needs treatment]."

Director Andrew Tyrell will run for Macclesfield's East Cheshire Hospice - and has raised £875 so far. (Donation link HERE).

Andrew will be joined by PHP's Audit and Quality Assurance expert Abigail Heaps, who invited Nub News up to PHP. (Donation link HERE).

Both Andrew and Abigail recently had relatives cared for by the Hospice.

"The work they do is amazing. The support they provide families going through such difficult times is remarkable.", said Abigail.

"It's nice to support a local charity which I have felt the impact of first hand. Thank you to everyone for their support."

Senior Account Handler Grace Barlow is raising money for the charity Mummy's Star, who support new mums with cancer and their babies. Grace has already raised £215 before taking a single step on the run, and is almost at her £250 target.

"It can be a really sad time in someone's life but it is a really positive cause", told Grace.

"Mummy's Star offers everything from counselling, to financial help, memory boxes and things such as bucket list activitiesfor the families affected. ."

If you include GiftAid, PHP will have raised even more than the above mentioned for their chosen charities.

"We really appreciate the support," thanked Leah.

"We know times are hard, but every donation makes such a difference to these charities, which we are so grateful for. Thank you.

"Leah also mentioned "While it was just me, Jullian and Grace who initially signed up to it. We have been joined by our colleagues, in particular Account Handler Hannah Shawcross and Abigail who have never ran before.

"They have been training so hard, and have already ran 10K together themselves in preparation for Sunday. Considering they started with many tears and a lot of pain, running for their chosen charities has provided them with the much needed motivation to overcome the challenge they face."

When pressed as to why Macclesfield should consider opting for an independent chartered insurance broker like PHP, as opposed to a larger, big brand rival, Grace had this to say: "You really get a more personal experience, someone can hold your hand through the whole process. If there is a claim, we are here to support you all the way in what otherwise might have been quite a stressful situation.

"And you get an overall, much more, close-knit community-feel with it. You have a dedicated Account Handler and/or Manager to assist you with any day-to-day queries , you are not going to get lost or be treated like a number. Our ethos is all about working with our clients to effectively manage their risks and ensuring they always remain at the heart of absolutely everything we do."

Other charities their staff will support in Sunday's Great Manchester 10K include The Shed in Tameside, and Manchester youth charity RECLAIM, with seven employees running in total.
