Macclesfield Nub News understands a vote will be held tomorrow to close the Disability Information Bureau and Shopmobility in Macclesfield.

Six anonymous messages, and two confirmed sources have contacted Macclesfield Nub News about the DIB's imminent closure.

An employee anonymously told Macclesfield Nub News, staff were informed a month ago over the DIB's potential closure, but there has not been a big enough window of time to save it.

They indicated concern for some of their vulnerable volunteers, including service users.

The charity provides free and confidential support on all aspects of disability to disabled people, carers, friends and professionals.

While phone calls and emails attempting to contact the DIB since last Monday have been futile, their first public statement acknowledging this has been posted on Facebook regarding the potential closure.

"It has always been important to us to ensure transparency regarding the work and important services that we carry out at the DIB," said the charity on Facebook.

"We thank you all for your patience and understanding at this time, and we will be sure to share any relevant updates in due course."

Macclesfield Nub News has also reached out to the DIB on whether any jobs has been lost, and how many people are losing their jobs.

The central Macclesfield charity had celebrated their 30th anniversary last year.

The latest financial reports for the DIB available for financial year ending 31 March 2023, suggests the total income for the charity in that 12 month period preceding was £258,934, and the total expenditure was £284,577.

Said total income included £204,116 from 3 government contract(s) and £37,361 from 2 government grant(s). The charity also received almost £300,000 from The National Lottery last year.

Macclesfield Nub News understands Macclesfield Shopmobility, of Churchill Way, operated by The Disability Information Bureau on behalf of Cheshire East Council, is also set to shut.

As well as the DIB, Macclesfield Nub News has also contacted Councils, Councillors and politicians for comment.
