A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in the Upton Priory area of Macclesfield.

Officers were called by paramedics to reports of a 45-year-old man with serious injuries inside a flat on Stirling Close at 2am on Wednesday morning.

The man died a short time later at the address, a police spokesperson confirmed.

The spokesperson said: "A scene is currently in place and enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.

"A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody being questioned by detectives."

The family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
