Man dies following Macclesfield flat fire

A man has died following a fire at a flat in Macclesfield.

Firefighters were called to the flat on Chester Road at around 4:45pm on Friday (22 January).

A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue said: "Six firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, entered the building with two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

"Sadly, a man, believed to be in his 40s, died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed."

The fire was confined to one flat and the other occupants were evacuated.

The cause of the fire is not believed to be suspicious and is currently under investigation, according to the latest update.
