Mayor of Bollington plants tree for Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee
Macclesfield: A new tree has been planted at Bollington Civic Hall, for Her Majesty The Queen.
Civic Leaders across the United Kingdom were asked to plant a tree to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
And Bollington joined in on the commemorative fun by planting a tree at their civic building on Palmerston Street.
The chosen date, Friday 11 March, was the seventieth day of the year in which The Queen marks the seventieth anniversary of her accession.
A Tibetan Cherry (Prunus serrula) was planted on grass outside of the community building.
They can grow up to 30 feet tall.
The Mayor of Bollington, Cllr Jo Maitland said, "It was a delight and honour to plant a tree at the Civic Hall on Friday 11th March as part of the Queen's Green Canopy.
"The Green Canopy is part of the Queen's 75th Jubilee celebrations and Bollington Town Council are proud to have planted this tree as the first of four subject to the locations being agreed.
The town will be coming together in a number of ways to celebrate across the Jubilee weekend but it feels extra special to have chosen to mark the occasion with a permanent reminder. We invited children from the local schools to mark the occasion with us and I hope they will be reminded of the day they helped as the tree grows over the years."
