Meet the Macclesfield DJ who chooses to raise money for charity instead of herself
A Macclesfield woman has spent the past five years raising thousands for charity, through the power of music.
Drum and bass DJ Jacqueline Francesca AKA 'Reme-D' has preferred to raise money for good causes rather than herself, when hitting the decks in Macclesfield.
"I've been organising charity events since 2018," she said.
"The first one was at The Swan with Two Necks pub on Chestergate, and now all of the charity DJ nights are at NO. 8 DUKE'S, in Duke's Court.
"I've also started doing them last year in DUKEBOX as well.
"I mix drum and bass along with house music. The funds raised go towards a few different charities each year.
"Last month I raised £100 for Dogs Trust, and on Friday March 3 I will be raising money for Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool.
"My friends on Facebook come to me to suggest charities, with many of them having personal connections to them.
"On April 1, I will be DJ'ing to raise money for Breast Cancer Now at NO 8 DUKE'S, and that will be an all female line-up of performers.
"As well as raising money for good causes, it also raises awareness for musicians and improves the nightlife in Macc.
"Since lockdown people don't go out as much anymore. But by having an event which helps, charities, bars, musicians and plays a wide variety of genres you are giving someone something to look forward to.
"Through these DJ nights over the past five years, I've raised almost £3000.
"Thank you to everyone for your support."
Jacqueline also uses her charity nights to give new and young talent a DJ slot, in what is an increasingly hard industry to get into.
Most of the events are free entry, so they can maximise the amount of people who could donate to the chosen charity, and so great music is accessible to everyone.
Other charities the young performer has supported includes the British Heart Foundation, and a community defibrillator charity.
Jacqueline has her costs covered to host the events, but does not take any performance fee, preferring it to be waived to charity.
Macclesfield Nub News concluded our chat with her to ask how she has kept doing philanthropic DJ-ing after all these years.
"Sometimes it can get a bit tiring but to see other people come and enjoy it is so worth it", she concluded.
"To hear things like 'we need more of this in Macc' or 'you're the only reason we go out', it is a wonderful feeling.
"And the feeling of playing the right tune as a DJ, it is very addictive."
Jacqueline - or REME-D's - next charity DJ night will be at NO. 8 DUKE'S in Duke's Court on Friday March 3.
Free entry, from 8pm.
