Metal band's debut album takes name from iconic Macclesfield landmark

A metal band's debut album takes its name from one of Macclesfield's most cherished landmarks.
Sigils are gearing up for the release of their first album, 108 – named after the iconic steps that connect Market Place and Waters Green.
Guitarist and vocalist Grant Chidzey will be known to many as the manager at Happy Valley Tap & Pizza on Oxford Road.
He said: "The driving force of the album was to create something with equal input from everyone.
"With this aim in mind, we have created something which we believe to be unique, drawing from our different backgrounds and influences.
"We're all still quite new to this but we really do feel like this album is a representation of how we've all developed over the last couple of years.
"It's something we're incredibly proud of and very eager to share."

Sigils started out life in September 2022.
Grant is joined by 27-year-old vocalist and guitarist Jake Hassmann, bass player and vocalist Charlie Hadfield, 34, and drummer Ante Rasic, 34.
They describe their sound as a 'distinct mixture' of alternative rock, heavy metal and post rock.
Grant added: "We have worked to blend the dynamic force of post-metal with the introspection of post-rock and the raw emotion of alternative music.
"Our aim as a band was to build towering, immersive soundscapes.
"Our debut album '108' is the realisation of that aim, imbued with input from each of us and our musical backgrounds.
"The album channels vulnerability, weight, and beauty in equal measure.
"From frantic riffs to walls of sound and delicate harmonies. We're excited to share with you, the culmination of two years of our efforts."

Since launching, Sigils have rehearsed every week at Big Red Studios at Waterside Mill, which is also where they recorded 108.
The album comes out on Monday (July 14) with a launch show in Macclesfield due to be announced soon.
