A unique twist (pardon the pun) on one of Charles Dickens finest works is to be performed in Macclesfield next week.
Charles Dickens meets the Goons in the King's School Macclesfield's glorious pastiche of Victoriana in Bleak Expectations.
While the expectations aren't great, the production quality certainly will be, as this Senior School production stars King's talented young thespians aged from Year 7 up to Year 13.
The show runs from February 14 to 17 and promises to be a hoot.
Adapted from the classic BBC Radio 4 series of the same name, this glorious farce shamelessly mixes and matches renowned Dickensian scenarios to somehow form a coherent and self-consciously comic plot.
Part Monty Python, part Sorry I Haven't Got a Clue, audiences will love the caricatures that havebecome part of the fabric of British culture. From Great Expectations, to Oliver! and Hard Times, the young actors have the chance to play each part to the max, holding nothing back to engage the audience.
Look out for Sam Harman as Sir Philip Bin, the narrator who holds the piece together as he remembers his younger days with a mix of nostalgia and delusion. The inventor of the Flip Bin, he remembers how he thwarts the malevolent Gently Benevolent played with menacing evil intent by Yussi Hill.
There is a cast of fabulous cameos with Kirat Kahlon, only in Year 7, playing monster Headmaster Wackwell Hardthrasher with a gusto belying her tender years.
As Director and King's Head of Drama, Donald Forbes, said: "We know this will be the first of many wonderful performances on the King's stage from this little star."
Older hands Ben O'Donnell, Annabelle Jordan, Will Gandy and Phoebe Harrison also grace the stage in this audacious production.
All folks are welcome with tickets costing £7 (with concessions) from the main school office. Parking is at the school.
