Motorists are being urged to plan ahead with a number of roadworks getting underway.

From Monday (August 11), Ivy Lane in Macclesfield will be shut during the daytime for up to a week as Cheshire East Council carry out repairs.

A diversion route via Oxford Road, Chester Road and Ivy Road has been put in place.

As a result, the number three bus will not call at the stops outside Co-op or Saint John the Evangelist Church of England School.

Elsewhere, carriageway improvement works have started in Bollington.

These are expected to take eight days to complete, having commenced on Sunday, August 10.

Wellington Road and Bollington Road will be closed between 9.30am and 3.30pm in sections to allow the works to progress.

However, access for residents and emergency vehicles will be maintained.

These works come following the announcement that a record £53 million will be invested in the borough's transport infrastructure in 2025/26.

Many of the improvement schemes have been planned for the summer, when the weather is warmer and drier, making it ideal for fixing and resurfacing roads.

Speaking ahead of the summer, councillor Mark Goldsmith, chair of Cheshire East's highways and transport committee, said: "We plan this work carefully and coordinate with utility companies and other partners to reduce disruption as much as possible.

"By carrying out much of it over the summer, when roads are quieter, we're doing our best to keep things moving while delivering long-term benefits.

"I would also like to thank our highways teams for the work they do, often in challenging conditions, and ask everyone to be considerate while they are out on the network.

"I urge drivers to please plan ahead, check before you travel, and allow extra time where needed. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we carry out these essential improvements to our roads."
