New Macclesfield store sells eco-friendly treats and gifts for dogs
A Macclesfield doggy shop had its soft opening at the weekend.
B&V Trading fills in a long-vacant unit on 17 Chestergate.
Owner Rob Benson (44) explained what his new store is all about.
"B&V Trading sell everything for your dog from top to tail", said Rob.
"Whether it is food, a harness, bowtie, bandana, shampoo and more.
"We're a small independent company and are delighted to be in Macclesfield.
"Everything we earn we put back into the business.
"I've been involved with retail since I was 13, and while it sounds really cheesey I do believe that shops like ours are what make a community, and where people want to come and chat to you.
"Dog ownership has gone through the roof the past few years. It is really easy to go to a supermarket, pick a product at random and not talk to anyone.
"But we are here to offer a friendly face and find out what is best for your dog.
"I know most of my customers and their dogs by name.
"Lots of our products are more durable as well, which is better for the environment as you are not throwing it away, also saving you money in the long-run."
It is their second store in Cheshire East, after opening up in Knutsford in May.
The business is named after two dogs Rob has owned.
Most of their wares for sale are UK-made, and have less air miles than products you may get at Pets at Home in Lyme Green or other pet-related stores.
There's also an eco-edge in the design of the products as well, with dog poo bags that can biodegrade within days.
"We are trying to move away from plastic," he added.
"Vinyl toys only last a few weeks, and when you throw that away you are just adding to the plastic waste problem.
"We have more eco-friendly options like suede.
And if we do have oil-based toys, we make sure they are healthy and manufactured in the UK so it is not as bad for the planet."
All of their treats - barring ostrich bones - come from Cheshire. They are 100% natural with no additives. An eye-catching item are cakes and muffins suitable for dogs.
Many things to buy are handmade as well, which adds value to the prices, while still keeping it affordable.
They decided to come to Macclesfield after a successful pop-up in Macclesfield's Grosvenor Centre, falling in love with the town and their residents.
"I really love small market towns with a friendly feel like Macclesfield," he concluded.
PHOTO CAPTION: The business has seen a rapid expansion in the past three years, opening three stalls on local high streets, with Macclesfield being the latest one.
"It is not a terrible town, it just needs people to come and use it. And we can't wait to welcome you."
It is their third high street store in the north west.
The first one opened in Sale just months after the first COVID lcodkwon.
But the business began as a vendor at Altrincham Market almost a decade ago, the building behind the same company that brought Macclesfield The Picturedrome.
They'll also hold a promotional pop-up for their new Chestergate shop at The Picturedrome in March.
They are currently figuring out their opening hours after their opening, particularly as they are small-staffed operation, but given this past Treacle-weekend's success they are sure to be open every weekend.
They're next open on Thursday February 2. Macclesfield: Follow them on Facebook.
