Five new streets are set to be named after Olympians from Macclesfield, following the conclusion of the games on Sunday.

The Chelford Road housing development for over 200 houses, near Henbury, will see the creation of five new streets.

And a July 31 Macclesfield Town Council meeting suggests local sporting heroes will have places name after them.

"The committee sought that the five streets off Chelford Road are named after successful Macclesfield 2021 Olympians," said the meeting's minutes.

"Following completion of the games (8th August), the names of those Olympians will be sent to Cheshire East Council Address Management."

It is unknown of 'Macclesfield 2021 Olympians' refers to Tokyo 2020, or any Olympian from Macc to have competed over the years.

However, a certain inclusion for a streetname will be Karriss Artingstall.

The Macclesfield female featherweight boxer took bronze last Saturday.

Elliot Hanson, of Redesmere Sailing Club, Siddington, competed in this year's Olympics.

However, he did not bag a medal in the Laser Sailing, but has still made our town proud, and could merit a lane named after him.

Cyclists Laura and Jason Kenny, who won Silver at this year's Olympics live in Chelford, have a Macclesfield postcode.

It is also not known if Paralympians will be considered for a new street name.

Sarah Storey, who is the the most successful female British Paralympian of all-time, has a golden post box named after her on Market Place. She lives in the Macclesfield constituency town of Disley.

Four time Paralympic medal winner Libby Clegg is from Bollington, and will sprint in her fourth Paralympics at the end of this month.

The Japanese Paralympics starts on August 24, and runs until September 5.

Former Olympians and Paralympians from the Macclesfield area that may also be considered include Sophie Thornhill, Bobbie van de Graaf, Steven Mellor, and Sir Ben Ainslie.
