The generous people of Macclesfield have been praised for funding a businesses expansion, as their owner fights for his life.

Earlier in the week, we reported that the crowdfunder to expand Chestergate company Lord of the Pies was £6,000 short of being funded.

However, the pastry-loving and good-hearted people of Macclesfield dug deep and pledged a whopping £19,967.

351 people pledged to help repair the damage caused by COVID, to open more sites and expand business into wholesale to secure staff & family jobs during their founder's illness.

Oliver Doyle, has two daughters, and is married to Lindsay, has a very rare genetic illness leaving painful tumours across his body.

The 41-year-old is eternally grateful for the Macclesfield community donating enough to secure the money will be sent to and invested in Lord of the Pies.

"Today we successfully raised £19,967 with 351 supporters," Oliver said.

"I can't thank everyone enough from the bottom of my heart. Taking a tough decision to bare all to the public is no easy thing. Outside of the business I'm a very private man but sometimes you have to ask for help.

"This is a very brutal situation and I've immersed myself with projects and campaigns in a push of strength and hope. I've shown a brave face and these projects and the effort needed to do it all keeps me busy, the reality is if I take a minute to think I'm absolutely sh***ing myself.

"I'm faced with an enemy, I don't know how strong it's fight is. It's an enemy I can't look in the eye to square up to, perhaps it could be a fight I might not win.

"When I walk into the ring with the Macclesfield public behind me, I walk in with an army and I feel so strong. A man asked for help and good people pledged. I walk down the street and people nod to me whom I don't know but I know them now.

"In a scenario like this any amount of stress lifted is a big help. I'm stood under a ton of bricks but some are lifted.

"I thank you all from the bottom of my heart and always will. I said this from the first day we started this business and it still stands, without you guys we are nothing. Thank you."

The Macclesfield company, who can deliver to your door via their website, offer a delicious range of meat, veggie and vegan pies.

They've been trading at 19 Chestergate since 2016, and the future of the business was under threat until the meeting of the crowdfunder goal.

Macclesfield Nub News congratulates Oliver and his family on securing the goal, amid uncertain times. We wish him well as he continues to undergo treatments at The Christie.
