The branding of Macclesfield business Velo Café has been removed, following its insolvency earlier this month.

The Café on 37 Chestergate, Macclesfield SK11 6BX, has begun the process of liquidation. The coffee shop had previously shut for Christmas, but never opened in the new year.

The shop frontage of its purple and white logo has been replaced with a text-free wooden finish.

No plans have been submitted for a new store or eatery to take its place.

Christmas decorations had still been up for the last four months.

The loosely cycling-themed Macclesfield business would have been four years old in May.

In a recent statement on social media, the business co-directed by Jakub and Katarzyna Paulina Supruniuk said: "We would like to inform that Velo Café no longer exists from 31st March 2022.

"Unfortunately, we have lost that fight against pandemic. We were full of hope until the end.

"We are really sorry for lack of information but that was a very hard time for us. We would like to thank you all for all those coffees, breakfast's and for every single minute you spent in Velo Cafe. But you all need to remember to keep smiling and look forward to every single day."

The final words from the business, gave a rallying cry to our town's independent coffee shops, most of which are on Chestergate.

"One more last thing we would like to ask you. Please support small hospitality business in Macclesfield: @gastownmacc @lordofthepiesgb @ethos_conceptstore @buttonwarehouse @monocledeli @acaciatreemacc @kitchenplums," they added.

According to documents on the GOV.UK website, Velo Café Taste Ltd owed over £104,000 in payments at the point of liquidation.

The business owners had travelled abroad for Christmas.

The business was founded by Macclesfield residents, of Polish descent.

Vincent Simmons, of Stockport insolvency firm Bennett Verby Limited added: "The business, in common with many others of a similar nature, was sadly affected by the Covid 19 crisis and resulting restrictions."
