Macclesfield: Have you get took part in Macclesfield Bikeathon?

Whether it is a leisurely ride around town with the kids, or a strenuous cycle on the Cheshire Plain, Macclesfield Bikeathon is back for another year!

The annual event encourages our town to get on their bikes to money for charity.

You may be scratching your head and thinking - 'that was a quick year'. But the last Bikeathon was held in September instead of May, being delayed due to the pandemic.

This year the one day event will take place on Saturday May 14 2022.

The Bikeathon, which is funded by Macclesfield Town Council, returned to the town in 2019 and 2021. So far over 400 riders have taken part, raising a total of over £10,000.

And like last year, the beneficiaries will be Brook Street mental health charity Just Drop In.

There will be three route options with varying distances, at varying start times from 08:00-10:00

All routes start from outside the town hall, Market Place, Macclesfield.

Organiser Darren Allgood and Ann Wright from Macclesfield youth charity Just Drop In with a Macc Bikeathon Yarn Bombed Bike.

Route 1 comprises; A 12-mile family ride which heads north out of Macclesfield, along the Middlewood Way towards Poynton where the route joins the road and heads south back towards Macclesfield.

Route 2 comprises; A 33-mile route around the beautiful Cheshire Plain, including a feed station at Great Warford Baptist Church.

Route 3 comprises; A 64 mile route which heads towards Tatton Park, including 2 feed stops at Great Warford Baptist Church. Including Bikeathon T-Shirt Feed Stations for Refreshments, Signed routes, Mechanical support and Sag wagon.

Macclesfield resident and business owner Darren Allgood organises the event, which is funded by Macclesfield Town Council.

"Come join the party on May 14", he said.

Ann Wright, Chief Executive Officer for Just Drop In is delighted that the Macclesfield good cause have been selected again by Macclesfield Bikeathon.

"This is a fabulous community event which we are terrifically proud to be involved in," she said.

"It's great to see so many people coming together to ride and have fun, while raising money to help others in their community.

"With the growing demand for emotional and mental health support, all the funds raised will go towards providing free counselling support to local young people."

Macclesfield Bikeathon costs £25 to enter with all funds raised going to Just Drop In.
