Plans have been approved and construction commences for a new apartment coming above a Macclesfield empty shop.

The unit of 5 Chestergate, which has been housed by The E-Cig Store Macclesfield before they moved next door, is also to see a revamp on the ground floor as part of the plans.

Cheshire East Council agreed to give the green light to a "change of use of upper floors to self contained one-bed apartment and a new shop front incorporating separate door to the first floor."

The new retail unit downstairs will have six less metres of floor space - down to 48 - but hopefully make it more attractive to a prospective business to move in.
