Organisers call out 'negativity' after Treacle Market cancelled for second month running
The Treacle Market was cancelled for a second month running.
A yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office for high winds meant the popular monthly market couldn't go ahead on Sunday, December 22.
This follows the cancellation of the November event, also due to bad weather.
Organisers have now shared a message, addressing some of the 'negativity' around the decision.
They said: "After a second blow cancelling the market, we're torn between two sides of our wonderful town.
"We're joining the sadness with traders at circumstances out of everyone's control, feeling the warmth of community and last-minute action plans, seeing the people determined to support locally in ice rain and sending comments of love and support to traders and small businesses alike.
"However this is starkly offset by negativity, that is becoming quite cutting for those that are involved with Treacle."
They added: "Treacle Market started 14 years ago with Macclesfield and its community at its heart.
"Any decisions made, from stall holders to music, to costs and cancellations are made with deep thought and consideration on the impact of Treacle Market, the traders, the town and visitors and so many more factors.
"As stated, all options were exhausted.
"We have been in discussions for some time with various people and groups about further options, and we hope to finalise plans in the future.
"This is not something that can come together overnight, as we're sure many of you understand.
"The Treacle Market you see and love every month is just the tip of the iceberg.
"Under the surface is a vast amount of planning, stress and humanity that goes into this large monthly event.
"We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and look forward to a new year of Treacle."
The first Treacle Market of 2025 is scheduled for Sunday, January 26.
