We are nearing 300 active COVID-19 cases in Macc, with restrictions easing on June 21 now seeming like a pipe dream.

In response, our borough council have issued a statement in response about COVID-19 local testing sites in the area.

This week, Macclesfield Nub News has brought you the latest cases figures following the surge in the Indian variant. Here are the latest figures.

There were 101 cases around Macc in the seven days up to June 1. Just five days later, there are now 207.

Cases have risen in Central Macclesfield by 20, from June 3 to June 6. There are currently 40 cases in the most populous area of Macc.

The latest figures for COVID-19 positive tests for the seven days up to June 6 are below.

In brackets, is the difference from the figures from three days prior, on the seven days up to June 3, as we last reported on Wednesday.

Ranked Numerically

Central Macclesfield 40 (+20)

Macclesfield East and Hurdsfield 32 (+10)

Macclesfield Upton Priory & Greenside 24 (+14)

Prestbury & Adlington 19 (+10)

Macclesfield Weston 18 (+9)

Macclesfield South & Lyme Green 17 (-2)

Bollington 16 (+5)

Gawsworth & Macclesfield Forest 14 (-1)

Macclesfield Bollinbrook 14 (+5)

Macclesfield Tytherington 13 (+1)

Central Macclesfield has now overtaken Macclesfield East and Hurdsfield with the most active cases.

Bollington no longer has the least cases, with it now being Macclesfield Tytherington.

Meanwhile, every area in Macc has double figures of COVID-19 for the first time since restrictions eased.

Dr Matt Tyrer, Director of Public Health for Cheshire East Council, said: "Testing without an appointment is being made available at the local testing sites at Crewe and Macclesfield, coordinated by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and run by Sodexo.

"However, we are sorry to hear that some people have had difficulty accessing walk-up testing yesterday. The Macclesfield and Crewe sites have seen large numbers of people attend yesterday for testing, which is great news, but the volume of visitors did cause some logistical issues at times.

"We are currently working at pace with partners to put in place a number of new solutions to help us in our fight against rising infections. We are working with our partners to sort this out as a matter of urgency, including increasing on-site personnel.

"Testing is a very important part of our outbreak management approach and we want to make it as easy as possible for people to access testing at this critical time. We hope to have the situation resolved by the time the facilities are open today.

"I would like to thank everyone who turned up to do their bit and ask everyone to be patient when attending at busy times. Please remember to take a mobile phone with you and or a form of photo ID."

More information about what happens at a PCR test site can be found on the NHS website.

A new mobile test site also opened in Wilmslow this week, at the Handforth Youth Centre.
