This local eight-year-old has raised almost £4000 for her friend with a rare disease.

Schoolgirl Tess Liddle has completed her challenge to traverse 36 miles across the Macclesfield countryside.

Her Macclesfield mega-hike garnered an incredible £3680, as of the publication of this article. And you can still donate here.

160 people backed her fundraiser to help save her friend's eyesight, and to help all children that suffer with CLN2 Batten Disease. We first spoke to Tess ahead of her big walk last month.

CLN2 Batten Disease is a disorder which affects the nervous system, and leads to a decline in vision, movement and thinking.

It is hoped with some of Tess' money raised, that treatment can help save the eyesight of pal Amelia (8).

Tess would like to say thank you to everyone who donated and she can't believe how much money she has raised.

"I feel really proud of myself and I had a really good time with my daddy and all my friends that joined me, said the Poynton pupil.

"It was really nice to have Amelia and Ollie there to meet me for the last bit of the walk."

Tess bravely traversed the Macclesfield countryside from June 3.

She passed Macclesfield beauty spots such as Croker Hill, Tegg's Nose and Bollington's White Nancy. Tess even met her friend Amelia at the end of the three-day hike at the start of the Gritstone Trail, outside the Disley Bus Café.

Amelia's older brother Ollie (10) is also affected by the debilitating children's condition.

Mike and Lucy Carroll, parents of the two children with CLN2 Batten Disease, had this to say on Tess' fundraising achievement:

"We are so proud of Tess, what she has achieved is incredible".

"Not only has she created much needed awareness of this disease, but she has raised a huge amount of funds which won't just go towards helping her friend Amelia, but to others who are battling from this awful condition.

"We would also like to say a huge thank you to Tess's parents Owen and Julia for organising and allowed their daughter Tess to do such a difficult challenge.

"At the age of eight Tess has put us all to shame, we are sure that she will have inspired others.

"Thank you so much to everyone who supported and donated to Tess's challenge. Together we can chance the path that these children are facing.

"We followed Tess's challenge every step of the way, the days were hot and tiring but Tess never gave up and kept on going.

"Amelia is truly blessed to have such a special friend."

Tess only intended to raise £500, but the community spirit has backed Tess, and with the help from our previous article.
