A football club in Bollington has won a league title - and exclusive plans are revealed to start-up more teams in the Happy Valley.

Bollington Football Club Second, secured the Altrincham & District Amateur Football League title on Wednesday June 8.

It was after a rousing eight goal romp away at AFC Didsbury Villa 2. Bollingtonian striker Jack Naylor scored a hat-trick against the Manchester site, to celebrate finishing first in style.

After helping blossom the title success, affiliated first team Bollington Football Club, who were the original footie team in Bolly, have announced an expansion.

Macclesfield Nub News spoke to grassroots footballer David Spruce (34), who first brought amateur football to Bollington.

"It is a huge achievement. It is the first trophy for Bollington Football Club," said Bollington Football Club Chair David Spruce.

"We set up in 2019 and started attracting players through Facebook from there. It is amazing for two seasons later to have a team that has won the league.

"The group of lads had fallen out of football, getting up to all-sorts on the weekend as you do as a young lad. But they've come together and they are a fantastic bunch.

"They train like professional athletes and they treat it like it is professional. They really have taken the league by storm.

"They were second when the league was curtailed because of lockdown, but both squads were doing Zoom personal trainer sessions and we were doing virtual training together.

"A lot of other teams in the league haven't been doing that. They fully deserve to have won the league."

The average age of the title winning squad was between 21 and 22. The league champions were coached by Josh Brown.

They will accept the trophy in Bolly on Saturday June 12.

Bollington Football Club hope to bring more trophies to the town next season, and enter a record number of teams into leagues.

Macclesfield Nub News is the first to report on their expansion.

"Bollington Football Club will gain four more teams next year. We will now have five teams," revealed David.

"There will be a Sunday league team, a Veterans team, a reserves team, and another team to be announced shortly, alongside the first team. We also hope to gain a men's under 21's team.

"Unfortunately it is a problem across the game. When children get to the age of 18, there's not a lot of opportunities to play competitive football as an adult. Round here especially there was nothing, and that's why we started the club.

"Bollington, Tytherington Juniors, Macclesfield Juniors, Park Royal, Hurdsfield Phoenix. There are five great teams that when kids get to under 18 level - there is nothing after that [for amateur football]."

The other Bollington adult team got to the cup semi-final and finished fourth this season, in the Hope Valley Football League.

David and his Co-Chair Joe Potts are currently training for their coaching badges. They have big plans for the people of Bollington.

"We would also like to set up a women's team in future years. We want to keep creating opportunities for the community - and not just through football," David added.

"The Bollington Rec is great for now, but we want an area and to buy some land. That is the goal of Bollington Football Club.

"The idea eventually is to have at least ten different teams, male and female and as a long-term goal, to provide a facility for the area.

"It will have 3G pitches, basketball and tennis courts. Maybe a bowls pitch, a gym, and changing room facilities to turn the football club into a community centre.

"We want to offer a leisure service to the community at a really affordable price, and lead that into a charity trust. Bollington Football club is not just about the football - we've got vision and ambition to offer to Bollington.

"We also want to work with local charities, and be a community club that will always help out the community.

"I love the professional game, but for me the real passion and satisfaction is grassroots football."
