Petition launched as B5470 closure extended until end of 2025

A petition has been launched following the extension of a road closure.
The B5470 Macclesfield Road looks set to be shut until the end of 2025.
It has been closed for much of the year already after the embankment supporting the road collapsed with part of carriageway back in January.
With the council website now stating a roadworks end date of December 31, a petition has been launched demanding 'immediate' repairs.
Keith Nixon, who started the petition, said: "Businesses and residents are urging local authorities to prioritise the repair and reopening of Macclesfield Road to restore normalcy and foster economic recovery.
"We urge Cheshire East Council to take immediate action by allocating necessary resources and manpower to expedite the repair process which would not only mitigate current inconveniences but also prevent potential long-term economic and social repercussions for our community.
"Join us in calling for this urgent action to ensure bolstering business continuity and enhancing the quality of life in Bollington, Rainow, Kettleshulme and the surrounding area."

More than 800 people have signed the petition since it was launched on Tuesday morning (May 13).
Keith says the closure has not only affected travel times but has also had a negative impact on businesses.
"As a long-term resident of Bollington, I have seen firsthand how this closure has disrupted daily life, causing longer commutes, increased travel costs, and a sharp decline in foot traffic to local businesses," he said.
"It's not just an inconvenience, it's a significant barrier that is affecting the economic vitality and social well-being of our community.
"Macclesfield Road is a crucial artery that connects Bollington to surrounding areas, facilitating the movement of people, goods, and services.
"Its closure has resulted in congestion on alternative routes, increased pollution due to longer travel times, damage to road surfaces, and diminished quality of life for residents and commuters who have to navigate this disruption daily."
Cheshire East Council has been approached for comment.
