Petition launched in bid to improve safety at Macclesfield park

A petition has been launched in a bid to improve safety at a Macclesfield park.
An ePetition has recently appeared on the Cheshire East website, calling for the council to take action to make the Ash Grove play area safer for children and families.
It asks that potential hazards are assessed, safety concerns addressed and necessary repairs and improvements be carried out.
In particular, it highlights that both entrances to the park are open, with roads either side of the park.
"This creates a serious safety concern because young children can run out of the park and straight into the road, putting them at risk of being hit by a vehicle," the petition states.
"Parents and carers should be able to take their children to the park without constantly worrying that they could run through an open entrance and into traffic.
"I am asking Cheshire East Council to install secure, child-safe gates at both entrances to the park to help prevent children from running straight out onto the roads.
"The gates should be suitable for families, easy for authorised park users to access, and designed to allow safe entry and exit in an emergency."
The petition continues: "Our children's safety must be a priority. A simple safety improvement could help prevent a tragic accident and give parents and carers greater peace of mind.
"Please support this petition and ask Cheshire East Council to take action to make Ash Grove park safer for all the children and families who use it.
"We should not have to wait for an accident to happen before action is taken. Let's work together to protect our children and make our local park a safer place."
The ePetition, which can be viewed on the Cheshire East website here, runs from October 10, 2026, to April 15, 2027.
